The House of Museums

The museums of Bourges are being transformed. To support this development, the Maison des Musées opened on May 10, 2023, place Etienne-Dolet. At the same time, a program outside the walls has started.
The City of Bourges has embarked on an ambitious program to renovate its museum offer. Its objective: more inclusive 21st century museums, more open to the territory and meeting the new expectations of the public and societal and environmental issues. This strategy for the future is supported by the City with all the more ambition as it is fully in line with Bourges's candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture.
The Musée des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France becomes “the House of Museums”: workshops, conferences, debates, presentations of the collections will introduce the world of museums and the renovation project to tourists and Berruyères and Berruyers alike. On the mezzanine, the windows are reused to deploy a thematic presentation highlighting objects and works rarely, if ever, exhibited.
This year, the Maison des Musées team is aligned with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and offers you an exploration of the museum collections which takes us to the fields and sports halls of Antiquity at the beginning of the 20th century. In a subjective and offbeat selection, numerous objects illustrate the Berruyer sporting world. The exhibition “Muses and athletes, sport comes out of its reserves” has been visible since March 13 and will close on January 4, 2025.

The Resistance and Deportation Museum
In Berry, the Second World War had a profound effect on the territory and its inhabitants as in many French regions. This modern museum with scenography pointed is there to remind it. Here and more than elsewhere, the emphasis is on history singular of the department of Cher, cut in 2 by the line of demarcation. Numerous testimonials and anecdotes tell us about this dark history and contribute to fulfilling our duty to remember.
