Very indebted to the teaching of Françoise Bizette (Technical School of Sèvres) then of Jean and Jacqueline Lerat (National School of Art of Bourges), he will remain friendly attached to his "master".

Faithful to the techniques taught, Jean Guillaume was able to find a very personal and original path. Both his sculptures and his more functional pieces always have a touch of humour. Bowls, mugs, soup tureens are anthropomorphic, an arm serves as a handle, a cap lid to a head-pot on feet. The animal sculptures are stylized, stripped down but close to singular art. Jean Guillaume enhances the modeling by using only a few colors, those brought by the engobes, softened by the ashes and the reduction of the cooking with wood from the Sèvres oven.
