A little bit of history
With its land rich in sandstone, it is from the XNUMXthe century that ceramists settled in the hamlet and started their pottery business. Over the years, ceramists have been able to combine the practical side of their works with the artistic side, transforming them into objects of art and collectibles. This little corner of Berry then became the village we know today and in which nearly a hundred artists from all walks of life and styles perpetuate the tradition in their workshops by creating unique pieces thanks to the Berry land.
Workshops on every corner
To find your way around the village and find out about all the places open to visit, we advise you to go to the Tourist Information Office, located in the heart of the hamlet.
As you stroll through the flowery streets of the village, meet the artists who have turned their passion into a profession. Discover the many workshops and art galleries open to the curious, such as the Lab 24 et The Totem.
If you are manual or want to live the experience to the fingertips, register for a course of Lolo Blasco-Mauriaucourt and discover its know-how with, for example, the construction of an oven and learning how to use it in order to bring your ideas to life.
A gourmet break
After these visits rich in discoveries and before resuming your excursion, there is nothing like a break in the garden of La Belle Verte. This tea room, in a green and shady setting, furnished with salvaged furniture, is the ideal place to eat. For those with a sweet tooth: don't miss their mint ice cream!
For dinner, let yourself be tempted by one of the two other restaurants in La Borne with quality tables: The grocery store, restaurant and grocery store, as well as The Kilometer.
The Museums of La Borne
In the restored chapel of St-Jean-Baptiste, in the heart of the pottery village, the La Borne Museum invites you to discover a remarkable collection of XNUMXth century ceramicse, XIXe and XXe centuries with, each year, a new exhibition proposed. Since 2020, the museum has also presented an exhibition devoted to works from the XNUMXth century.e century and to artists Élisabeth Joulia, Vassil Ivanoff, Yves Mohy, André Rozay and Marie Talbot.
Le Contemporary Ceramics Center of La Borne (CCCLB), a 665m² glass gallery opened in 2010, is the permanent exhibition space for the 75 members of the Association Céramique La Borne. You will discover, in addition to the permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions with guest artists and ceramists, of international stature. You can also visit the Ivanoff Museum, in which you will explore rooms exhibiting many of his works as well as those of other artists. Just opposite, you will be invited to explore his house and workshop. Finally, if you like humor and wacky objects, The Funny Little Museum of Zèbréric is made for you! You will find there an exhibition of unusual objects diverted, in a universe inspired by Jacques Carelman, for an extraordinary visit.
If reposer
To enjoy the charm of La Borne a little longer and rest, we recommend four guest rooms located in Henrichemont.
The Mala Gardens, ecotourism guest house in a Berry farmhouse, the Residence of the Tanneries, surrounded by greenery and forest, Fairy Lake, a restored XNUMXth century residence which has retained the charm of the legend of Lac aux Fées and Le 16, Guest house in Berry located in Haut Berry, with its typically Berry style.
