A well-known face in the landscape of Borne, President of the Association Céramique La Borne, potter and ceramist, it only takes a few seconds to quickly understand that Laurence, known as "Lolo", has always fallen into it. Sensitive to materials, sandstone, water, fire, light… it is his words that touch, his gaze that awakens and his passion that unites.
  • LOLO, DO YOU THINK WE ARE BORN OR BECOME ARTISTS?
  • LOLO BLASCO MAURIAUCOURT : I live in La Borne but I have moved 26 times in my life. I was a journalist-reporter, I had a theater career, I did song, photography, video. I have always had a special relationship with earth and materials, I fired my pottery pieces in my (very) mini wood-fired oven in my Parisian garden. We are then craftsmen and artists, we create unique pieces, there is always an artistic part. We are creators, when we make art, there is necessarily an emotion. Moreover, moving people with ceramics is an impressive feeling. We write with light, we create with light.
  •  IS THE VILLAGE OF LA BORNE OBVIOUS WHEN YOU ARE A POTTER/CERAMIST?
  • LBM : I discovered La Borne at the beginning of autumn 2016 thanks to a friendly acquaintance. Accepted for an internship by Éric Astoul, I arrive one evening at Roz Herrin and Dominique Garet (potter and ceramist from the village) and I see these large cooking flames, the light, the real one, in the dark night at the end of the day. I withdraw to cry and now know that this is where I want to live. Imagine, you live and work in the same place with local materials, I don't want to move! The earth is under our feet with its different shades and the oaks are in front of us. When you come to La Borne, you come for a meeting, it's a chance.
  • WHEN YOU COME FROM ELSEWHERE, IS THE INSTALLATION IN THE VILLAGE EASILY DONE?
  • LBM : You come from Paris, for example, we welcome you, not as a competitor, but as a new member of the family. It's La Borne or nothing! There are more than 13 nationalities represented, the average age is high but a wave of youth is arriving with 8 installations over the past 4 years. The collective at La Borne is mandatory, there is room for initiative. When you settle here, you have to be able to put your skills at the service of others.
In La Borne, 300 inhabitants, no one is lost, the anonymity of big cities is over. However, there are collectors, tourists, it's the world that comes here! There is a continual supply of meetings of people. Besides, we remind you every day that you are lucky to live here. We live off ceramics, it's not an illuminated showcase. It is not a commercial relationship, but a human one. Besides, I don't sell my pieces, they buy them from me.
  •  YOU ARE PRESIDENT OF THE CERAMIC ASSOCIATION, WHAT IS IT?
    DAILY ?
  • LBM : The primary objective is to promote Bornoise ceramics internationally and bring the international here. For example, we are at the origin of the creation of a unique place, that of the Center Céramique, ten years ago, where the collective exhibits its works. We also organize the event of Great Fires of La Borne, internships, exhibitions outside the walls. We are the mainspring (laughs). We feed the store. We are ambassadors, a land of welcome, all works are respected. Here, there are 50 years of memories, 50 years of collective initiatives carried out by the Association
  • YOUR LITTLE SECRET CORNER AT THE BORNE?
  • LBM : My workshop is opposite the La Belle Verte tea room, I cross and I find myself in a little corner of paradise. Without forgetting my founding place, Éric Astoul's studio. Every time I go there, I feel the primary emotion, there is a particular relationship to time and matter.
  • YOUR CREATION THAT MAKES YOU A LITTLE
    MORE PROUD?
  • LBM : My little characters “People of the Moon”. The Moon is our common point in the world. I surrounded myself with these little characters as a connection. One piece won the jury's favorite prize of the Métiers d'Art du Cher in 2019.
