This year marks the 30th anniversary of the first UNESCO World Heritage listing of Saint-Étienne Cathedral in Bourges and it's worth celebrating!

St. Stephen's Cathedral under the spotlight

Did you know? La Saint-Etienne Cathedral in Bourges has the rare distinction of being twice inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Twice, the international organization has thus recognized the Outstanding Universal Value of the building, that is to say, "a cultural significance so exceptional that it transcends national borders and is of the same inestimable character for present and future generations". Just that !

En 1992, the St. Stephen's Cathedral enters this prestigious list for the first time: we then salute as much the very great importance it had in the exceptional expression of Gothic architecture, as the unity of its design, the harmony of its proportions, the treatment light or the quality of its decorations.
In 1998, since the cathedral was located on the route of the Vézelay route, the building was once again recognized as one of the 78 components of the “Road to Santiago de Compostela in France” property.
In this year 2022, we will thus celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first inscription on the World Heritage! Visits, conferences and concerts will allow you to share the exceptional nature of this monument!
