There are a thousand and one ways to discover the riches of Bourges. Visits, walks, even a little train. This time, this message is aimed at pedaling enthusiasts! Bourges has developed many of its streets and paths to accommodate cyclists. So as not to get lost, we suggest three discovery itineraries departing from the Tourist Office. You can download them below, or they are available at the reception of the Office!

Itinerary n°1: From the gardens to the marshes

For this first route, we take you through the green spaces of the city. Departure at the foot of our magnificent cathedral, and first hectometres in the spans of the Jardin de l'Archevêché. This is the highest point of the course, then it is only downhill and flat!

After a few pedal strokes, you will quickly find yourself in the Marais. You will spend half of the journey in the lungs of the city, on paths in the shade of trees and at the edge of the water. You may come across market gardeners in boats or on their plots, do not hesitate to greet them!

Barely out of this paradise, and you are back again in a green space. This time, the Jardin des Prés-Fichaux will bring this walk to a close. A little less than 5 kilometers to breathe in the middle of nature in the heart of Bourges.

Route n°2: From the Canal de Berry to the Rocade Verte

The second route follows part of the route of the Rocade Verte, the bike route designed to circumnavigate the city in complete safety and comfort. This time, we offer you a 10 kilometer loop, always with the start (and therefore the finish) at the foot of the cathedral at the Tourist Office!

The first part will take you through the streets of the city center. In particular, you will pass in front of the Town Hall, the former Maison de la Culture, as far as the Palais d'Auron. It is after crossing the Auron that you will find the Rocade Verte path.

From there you will follow the Canal de Berry for a while until you pass in front of the Quai du Prado. Then you will bypass the city in a wilder and less inhabited part. After passing near the airport, you will arrive at Val d'Auron and its lake.

Nothing prevents you from going around it. But for our part, we allow ourselves to skip these 6 kilometers to continue directly on the Trouée Verte, a path which pierces the trees and which will bring you back almost directly to the Palais d'Auron. Small variation compared to the outward journey, we make you climb the rue d'Auron to finish. And you're back at the Tourist Office!

Itinerary n°3: Around the Lac d'Auron

This time, we can't escape the Val d'Auron! Before getting there, the start is always at the Tourist Office and the first kilometers will have you zigzagging through the cobbled and secret alleys of Bourges town centre. After going around the Palais d'Auron, here you are on the famous Trouée Verte, this natural and exotic tunnel which will serve as a launching pad to continue on the tour of the Lac d'Auron.

Arriving at the dam, you have the choice of starting from one side or the other of the body of water. We start on the west side, the wildest part of the journey in the shade of many trees. If you are with your children, also enjoy the playgrounds, the skate park and even the tennis courts!

Halfway, you will come out on the Lac d'Auron beach and the picnic area. Then again a shaded part and the famous corner… corners! A small platform where the swans and the animals of the Lake like to gather while impatiently awaiting the pieces of bread thrown at them by passers-by!

The last part of the tour will see you walk along the residential area on the walls of which it is possible to see the street art creations of OaKoAk, if you have the eye! Then the Esplanade can serve as a well-deserved break, with its bar at the edge of the water, before returning to the Trouée Verte to retrace your steps.

Small nuance compared to the outward journey, we make you finish on a touch of greenery passing through the Jardin des Prés-Fichaux, if you did not know it yet! Before finishing where it all began, at the Tourist Office!

Distance: 12157 meters – 12,16 kilometers
