But what is Bourges-Sancerre®?
If you don't know about this event, we'll explain it to you.
This legendary race is initially a bit of a crazy bet. THE 26th November 1951, more than 1500 people came to witness the departure of around thirty adventurers, determined to connect Bourges to Sancerre on foot. More than 57 kilometers, starting by night et in the heart of winter : you had to want it.
Initiated by the Berruyers Cycling Tourist Club, the race which has lasted for more than 70 years, today brings together nearly 3 000 participants, who set off to face the elements, to reach the Piton Sancerrois.

Equip yourself well
Such a hike cannot be improvised, you need good equipment and certain elements are required.
Mandatory equipment
- A yellow vest to be clearly visible at night.
- A lamp (frontal or pocket) to see where you are putting your feet.
Our advice
The shoes
Don't leave with your city shoes or sneakers, take good hiking shoes that fit you and in which you feel good.
If you have just bought them, remember to “do them” by training yourself to walk a few kilometers or by wearing them at home, in the office… so that on the day they are real slippers.
Socks
They are also important for good foot support and to avoid blisters! Take them reinforced and quite thick and solid.
Clothes
Check the weather carefully before leaving, mid-February, it may not be very warm in the middle of the night. Cover yourself but don't weigh yourself down unnecessarily. A neck warmer, a hat, gloves, a fleece, rain gear... be prepared.
Le sac
Small backpack or even fanny pack, consider taking a “hands-free kit” container to put a bottle of water, a snack, tissues, bandages, your gloves if you are too hot, etc.
The cup
They are not provided at refreshment points, so bring a cup or light mug.
